MEET CRISTINA CARIVEAU, LMT
Growing up a ballet dancer, Cristina learned the more grace we have for our bodies, the better we know how to care for our whole being. With her background in massage therapy, Medical Science and further training in lymphatic wellness, prenatal, and postnatal massage, she is excited to be on the Restore + Revive team serving women. PRENATAL MASSAGE FAQS

While therapeutic touch can still be incredibly valuable for a high risk mother, all high risk pregnancies will need to send proof of doctor/provider approval prior to initial session. Examples of this might include hypertension, gestational diabetes, placenta previa, etc. If permitted, certain precautions will be in place depending on your level and type of risk.
-
There is no evidence that supports massage will induce labor or miscarriage in any trimester. However, there are certain techniques and acupressure regions of the body that may help to prepare a mother’s body and mind for labor. These are only performed after 36 weeks.
-
Whether you are at 1 or 41 weeks, massage can be of benefit to you and baby too! When you start coming is up to you. We have body pillows to accommodate side lying, face down, and face up positioning to ensure your comfortability throughout your pregnancy.
-
Generally, I would recommend sessions 1-2 times per month in the first two trimesters and then increase one more session per month in the final trimester. While these are my recommendations, how often you choose to come is completely up to you!
-
I always love to give my clients every minute of hands on work that they booked. Expect approximately a 70min session in total if you booked 60min. Keep in mind, if it is your first session, we may spend a little bit more time discussing your health history and needs before hands on work.
I stick to simple oils/lotions. Coconut oil for the win! I typically keep quiet for your entire session with the exception of regularly checking in about my level of pressure, asking you to change positions, or to activate a particular muscle group. I will be praying for you! I trust Jesus Christ to be the ultimate healer of our spirit, mind, and body.

Yes! If you decide to bring baby to your session, I would highly suggest having another caregiver present so that when baby is done feeding or napping beside you, he/she can be handed to the caregiver so you may keep resting for the remainder of your session. I can also show you infant massage techniques that you can take wherever!
-
This is completely normal and not to worry if you are experiencing minor leaking especially post partum. You have the freedom to dress down to your comfort level for your massage. Should you decide to leave on your bra or pannies, you will still receive an amazing session.
-
You can still receive relaxation massage even if you are in post-operative healing. Your incision will be avoided until it has closed (about 6 weeks). Here is where I would recommend booking with Dr. Kathrine for post-surgery lymphatic drainage and optimal scar tissue recovery therapy.

Right now, Cristina will only see ages 3 and older for pediatric sessions. She is currently qualified to offer massage therapy sessions to children who are generally healthy and well. If your child has a specific healthcare-related diagnosis, including, but not limited to, cardiorespiratory conditions, kidney/liver dysfunctions, or mental disabilities (autism, down's syndrome, etc), pediatric massage for special healthcare needs may be required, and/or a referral from your child's healthcare provider.
-
For some children, touch can easily cause overstimulation. Permission is always asked before going hands-on, as well as feedback throughout the session. Pressure applied is typically not too firm or deep as children's muscles are less dense than that of an adult.
-
Cristina aims to create a positive, engaging, and age-appropriate massage therapy session for your child. These sessions are intended to provide the opportunity for your child to learn "what is massage?" and reflect during and after about how they receive touch. For example, during an appointment with a 5-year-old, she might incorporate storytelling or rhymes alongside massage techniques to engage with your child and facilitate tactile connection to spoken words. Other educational experiences may include playing with different textured massage tools, or showing how to massage stuffed animals. There is space for you, the parent/guardian, to be present during the session if you desire. Feel free to ask questions or have me show you any techniques that you can use at home :).
-
Children are welcome to keep any or all of their clothing on during the massage. While it is recommended that shorts and tank tops be worn so that more skin can be applied with unscented oil/lotion, whatever makes your child feel safest is best. Space will be given if your child needs to dress down and lie beneath the sheets. Appropriate massage therapy draping will be utilized throughout the entire session regardless of how much clothing is worn.

If your child has had a recent immunization/vaccination, please wait 72 hours before having an appointment. Otherwise, all standard contraindications apply, such as having an acute infection, fever, contagious skin condition or virus, open wound, or circulatory condition; massage will not be given.
